DR Horton Homes, the largest homebuilder in America, requested our expertise to inspect a windmill at one of their amenity centers near Santaquin, Utah, due to concerns about an unusual noise.
During our inspection, we identified a minor issue with the windmill’s gearbox. To ensure the windmill’s continued smooth operation, we scheduled a repair to replace the component.
On the day of the repair, we braved the cold—starting our work at a brisk 17 degrees. By the time we had transferred the sheet metal and tail vane from the old gearbox to the new one, the weather had warmed to a more manageable 32 degrees, allowing us to finally shed our mittens, making for a successful and satisfying day of work.
Take a look at the photos of our team assembling the windmill on an ice-covered street.
Thanks to the strong relationship we built while servicing two other windmills, Big Sky was selected to fabricate and install a new 14′ windmill and a 42′ wooden tower for the “Viridian” development, just south of Salt Lake City.
